Using The Internet To Find Killer Deals

Finding a bargain got a lot easier with the advent of the Internet. All sorts of consumer products are easier to shop, compare, and even discount over the Internet, from different kinds of savings accounts to travel arrangements. Here are a few easy ways to scout around for good deals and make the most of the Internet.

  • Sign up for savings - Some merchants offer savings via their newsletter or email campaigns. If you know you want to buy from a particular merchant, make sure to sign up and get put on their email list to receive those offers online.
  • Set up alerts - Are you looking for a specific product or service? Then set up alerts for merchants who offer those and specify the name of the product or service on Google Alerts. You will be notified immediately when content gets updated with your specific keyword searches. The same can be done for travel arrangements. If you’re looking for a deal to a specific place, you can use FareWatcher Plus on Travelocity.com to watch and alert you on deals that come up for those destinations.
  • Bid it down - You can decide to name your own price by using services like Priceline.com. If you’re renting a car, you can go and see what the lowest rate is offered in that city, and simply bid less. If there are no other takers and the merchant agrees, you can get your rental for much less than the advertised price.
  • Compare prices - You can easily compare prices online by using services like NexTag.com. This works for all manner of consumer prices. You can even compare prices just by putting in the item description into the Google search engine and seeing who else is offering that product and for what.
  • Discount it - To get discounts, you can find promotional coupon codes on websites around the Internet by Googling for them. Another way to get a discount is to join services like ebates.com that will take a straight percentage of the price and offer back to you as an rebate that gets sent to you in the mail. You do have have to make a minimum of $5.01 to receive a payout in rebate offers at ebates.com.
