Home Upgrades That Are Worth the Money

When you have your own home, the temptation to start renovating it to create your dream home is high. But some upgrades might not add that much value to your investment. These ideas from Yahoo’s Finance pages can help you decide which home renovations will have the best payoff for you:

  • Add a deck: A wooden deck adds more value to your home than the equivalent space as a new room, if you look at the cost outlay involved. Of course, it depends on the climate where you’re living as to how much use a deck can get.
  • Do minor kitchen renovations: We’re not talking replacing an entire kitchen, but small touches like new countertops, new handles on drawers and cupboards and repainting. Making a kitchen feel a touch more modern and fresh will increase your home’s value.
  • Redo the bathroom: While this can be a more costly renovation, it’s a must if you have bathrooms that look slightly old or dirty – so if you’re planning to sell soon, take a good look at what you could renew in your bathrooms.
  • Consider installing energy-efficient windows: With the cost of energy rising, homebuyers are starting to look at factors like energy-efficient windows which will save them money in the long term on utility bills.
