Saving Money On Business Travel Expenses

briefcaseUnlike family vacation ideas on a budget, business travel budgets aren’t looking for a fun experience more than savings. You can really get some great airfares today, as airlines compete for fewer customers, but that doesn’t really take into account the amount of lost time in travel and the simple inconvenience of it all. If you’re able to convince your clients that you can provide the same level of service without actually showing up in person, they will probably be happy to agree to a more technological solution that saves you money too.

Online Interactions Can Save Money

With products like VOIP phones and webcams, it’s not so hard anymore to interact face-to-face with someone, no matter how far they actually live from you. This is great if you have branch offices and you want to implement meetings online that don’t require the person to physically be there. There are a number of different vendors who can help you set up a technology solution to your travel needs, from Cisco to Skype. Some of these devices, like the Skype phone, can even cut your long distance bills while you’re at it too.

Get Fare Savvy

If travel is absolutely required, there are ways to get the best fare from scheduling alerts, to joining frequent flier programs. Use strategies like leaving in the middle of the week at odd hours to get a cheaper fare. Group discount rates can be negotiated with hotels that may also be struggling to get customers in this recession. Don’t forget to add a bit of travel insurance, just in case you miss the flight. You don’t want to end up paying for a service you don’t even use, particularly when you are making overseas trips that can be expensive to cancel.
