America’s 10 Worst Jobs: Be Happy It’s Not You
History and personal experience teaches us that the grass is always greener on the other side - in the job world, it’s not different. But before you look for a change of career, consider that several of the most glamorized are actually some of the 10 worst jobs in America:
- Modeling: America’s Top Model does not represent the average model’s job. In fact, in 2007, models made an average of $11.22 per hour, just a little less than than double the federal minimum wage.
- Waiters and restaurant hosts: Low pay and no benefits are common denominators of many restaurant jobs around the country, leaving their employees melancholy and dissatisfied with their position.
- Tour and travel guides: 79.4 percent of tour and travel guides reported that they were unhappy with their position. Low pay is a key factor.
See MSN Money for the full story. Included on the list of dissatisfied workers were counter attendants at cafeterias, food concessions, and coffee shops (87%); ushers, lobby attendants, and ticket takers (85.4%); fabric and apparel patternmakers (82.2%), lifeguards and other protective-service workers (81.6%); demonstrators and product promoters (79.2%), dishwashers (78.8%); and motion-picture projectionists (78.1%). Remember, even if you don’t have the best job in the country, you probably don’t have the worst.
