Richest Cartoon Characters

When it comes to cartoons and comparisons of wealth, the problem invariably arises that these characters, at least most of the time, exist in different worlds. Where a million dollars might make one the richest man on Earth in one world, the same amount could make one a pauper in another. That being said, some characters are just blatantly the richest cartoon characters out there.

Scrooge McDuck, Disney/Duck Tales – The guy has a ten story vault… filled with gold coins… that he swims in. Need I say more? Scrooge McDuck began his wealth as a child when he was given a dime for shining a man’s shoes. He would keep that “#1 Dime” as his luck charm and to this day considers it the most valuable thing he owns. Scrooge McDuck is the epitome of the richest man, er duck in the world. It’s his whole reason for existing.

Flintheart Glomgold, Disney/Duck Tales – If you’re going to mention Scrooge McDuck then you have to mention his rival, Flintheart Glomgold. If Flintheart has 98 cents, then Scrooge has 99. Unfortunately for Flintheart, this is how things have always been despite any of Flintheart’s dastardly plans. At the very least you have to credit him for one thing, he’s not lazy.

Bruce Wayne, DC Comics – Billionaire playboy by day (or so he’d have you think), caped crusader by night. Bruce Wayne’s wealth began with the inheritance from his murdered parents. From those beginnings, his wealth has grown exponentially. Lex Luthor would have made this main list too if it weren’t for the fact that Bruce Wayne now also owns everything Lex once had.

Montgomery Burns, The Simpsons – He had a Trillion Dollar Bill at one point (that was stolen by Fidel Castro). While Montgomery Burns has at times lost his wealth, he invariably always gets it back. Simply stated, like Scrooge McDuck, Monty Burns exists to be wealthy. And if flash forwards are any indication, he’ll still be around a couple eons from now as a cyborg after the apes have taken over our world, now entirely comprised of Homer Simpson clones.

Tony Stark, Marvel Comics – A boy genius who inherited his parents company when they died in a car accident, Tony Stark did not take the normal path of superheroes and immediately begin fighting crime. Instead he would build his company into a formidable corporation and make himself a billionaire. Creating weapons for the military, however, Stark would soon have a change of heart and decide to use his genius to create a suit of battle armor to fight oppression under the name “Iron Man.” Fighting at times to keep his company and against his own alcoholism, Tony Stark is still nonetheless one of the richest character in the Marvel universe.

Mom, Futurama – Imagine its hundreds of years in the future. Robots are everywhere. And all robots, robot parts, robots anything is made, sold, and maintained by one single company, “Mom’s Friendly Robot Company.” Don’t let her appearance fool you though. Cuddly, old mom is actually a malicious, slender G.I.L.F. in a fat suit. She talks like a sailor and rules her empire, the largest company known to man, with an iron fist.

David Xanatos, Gargoyles – The ultimate “Self-Made Man”. Xanatos’s wealth began when he anonymously received a gift of medieval, gold coins along with instructions on how they should be invested. From that initial $20,000, Xanatos would make billions. His personal skyscraper towers over New York City and is capped by a castle he had dismantled and shipped over from Scotland. His wealth, however, has mostly been turned inward, to fund a quest for his own immortality. In pursuit of this, Xanatos would also obtain a method of time travel. Back in the middle ages, he would acquire a handful of gold coins. Placing these coins in a bag along with a note written by himself, Xanatos would arrange for this bag to be delivered to himself as a child, thus making him the ultimate “Self-Made Man”.

Bulma/The Briefs Family, Dragonball – When she first appeared in the Dragonball series, Bulma was a teenage girl who was searching for the Dragon Balls so she could wish for the perfect boyfriend. We knew she was a smart inventor, having designed a device to locate the Dragon Balls, but we didn’t know that Bulma Briefs was actually the daughter of Dr. Briefs, the founder and owner of Capsule Corporation, the richest company in the world. Between Dr. Briefs and his daughter, they have proven adept at everything from robotics, to space travel, to altering the very laws of gravity. Together they have proven themselves as invaluable assets to their many friends.

Wile E. Coyote, Looney Tunes – Subtle wealth and fanaticism disguise this individual for what he truly is, one of the richest cartoon characters in any universe. Bat-Suits, rocket skates, dehydrated boulders, all purchased, without question, from a company the sells everything. The explanation can only be one thing… Wile E. Coyote is quietly rich beyond compare, the veritable Howard Hughes of the cartoon world. A man who’s overwhelming obsession overshadows the outstanding resources necessary to sustain it. Yet while the media may focus on his psychosis-approaching ambition to capture the elusive Road Runner (Spruce Goose), we here can acknowledge the sheer personal wealth at his disposal.

Honorable Mentions:

Richie Rich/The Rich Family, Harvey Comics – Richie Rich would have made the list if it weren’t for the fact that he’s sadly dead. Didn’t know that? Well, then who did you think Casper is? Look at their faces. Richie’s dead.

Lex Luthor, DC Comics – While he may have recently lost a huge portion of his wealth (as well as the Presidency of the United States), Lex Luthor bears mentioning as we can all safely assume that in time, he will find himself in the billionaires’ club once again.

Whether they be superheroes, super-villians, scientists, or ducks who like to swim in money, the richest cartoon characters all prove that through smarts and determination anyone can have the wealth they desire.
