College Might Get Too Expensive For Americans

Symbol of ClemsonCollege costs have been a heavy financial burden for many in the United States for a long time now, but some scary statistics are making it sound like it could get a whole lot worse.

For a start, the costs of a college education have increased by 439% in the last 25 years; but incomes have only gone up by 147%. That’s a big gap, and knowing that it’s not much of a surprise to know that student borrowing has doubled in the last ten years. And with several states already talking about large increases in tuition costs for the next school year, things are only going to get worse.

Lower income families are particularly likely to be affected by the rising costs of college and experts are warning that unless the system is improved, the United States might be the only country in the world in which older workers are better educated than younger ones.

So, the experts say, you should plan ahead as much as you can to ensure your children will be able to afford a college education so that they’re not left behind as one of these statistics; and definitely think twice about encouraging your children to go to an expensive college when another will do fine.
