Money Saving Tips in the Modern Age
In these times of economic crisis, it is good to know that there are solutions and ways to save money on our bills. From using coupons at the grocery store to cash back programs that allow us to get money back on purchases, there are outlets in our time of need to help us retain our current salaries, especially when we have big expenses to take care of. There are corners that we can cut to save and adjust our budgets to stretch what we do have so that our quality of life does not suffer. We want to live well and save money and one area where we can make headway is our technology and the money we pay to be “connected”. There are many areas where we can save on technology costs and although it may not seem like much, these savings can really add up to a respectable amount. By saving this money, we may be able to increase our retirement fund or afford that great vacation that we have never been able to take.
Negotiate a lower rate from cell phone, internet and cable providers. Many companies are aware that consumers are tight on money and will offer discounts to keep their customers. They often have promotions that will allow you to lower your internet bill as well as your cable bill without sacrificing channels or bandwidth. This negotiation can result in more money in your pocket for saving for harder times or for the future. Not only can we save by negotiating our phone bill, but we can also see some savings by switching our landline to a VOIP, or voice over internet phone line. Companies such as Vonage offer unlimited calling and long distance for less than the cost of a normal landline.
Monitoring your electric consumption can be eye-opening and can help you save money on power costs. Although an electric company has no room for negotiation, by monitoring your usage, you will be more careful and see the savings in real time. This will motivate you to cut down on your power use to reasonable levels and teach you routines that will help you save money. You can purchase devices for individual appliance monitoring or more complicated systems that can monitor your entire home.
Using the web to sample new music can be an interesting way to save money as well. Many times we buy a new album and we end up not liking it very much. By sampling some of the songs, we can get a gauge of the album and see if it is worth the $15 we will pay for the songs. If we only like a few, we can hop over to iTunes and only buy the songs we really like rather than wasting money on songs we don’t want to hear. This way, we can be selective and enjoy more songs that we like rather than wasting money on songs we have no interest in hearing.
There are many great ways to save money available, including those mentioned, but also you can save money on rentals by watching streaming video online. Brewing your own coffee rather than spending a few dollars a day on commercial coffee can save you over the long run and allow you to enjoy your mornings at home. These savings add up over time and if you consistently follow these guidelines, you will reap the benefits where it counts, your wallet.
