It’s not always easy to each cheap and healthy, but many consumers are slowly realizing that their local grocery store may hold the key: prepared food counters. In fact, grocery stores say that they’ve seen a sharp increase in the popularity of these foods, and have in turn improved selections to account for more varied diets and nutrition.
Instead of calling for sometimes-expensive and rarely-healthy takeout, more and more Americans have taken to swinging by the grocery store on their way home. Whole rotisserie chickens, potato salads, cooked fish, and comfort foods like mashed potatoes and lasagna are readily available, home-cooked, and relatively inexpensive. That’s just the way Americans like it, especially with an economic downslump hitting the economy.
To account for growing needs and interest, grocery stores are adding even more diversity, including soup options, spicy ethnic foods, and others that are often on-par with typical restaurants and take-out food. Convenience is key, but so is price, and many grocery stores allow you to feed a family of four for under $10. Talk about savings.
The next time you’re craving a home-cooked meal without having to cook yourself, take a look at your local grocery store. And if you’re in the mood for something extra special, don’t hesitate to visit a more expensive grocery - even there, food will likely cost just a fraction of a restaurant meal.
